The Invisalign alignment system is one of the most requested treatments at our office. Although its use goes back more than 20 years, many of our patients still have uncertainties and misconceptions about what the system can and cannot do.
There are very few orthodontic situations that Invisalign is unable to correct. In years past, the Invisalign system had narrow parameters and many issues that it did not correct. Because of advances in technology, most of the old restrictions are no longer a consideration. Our Invisalign provider in Tarzana recommends the alignment system for numerous problems including:
• Adjusting open bites, crossbites, overbites, and underbites.
• Closing gapped teeth
• Realigning protruding teeth
• Spacing crowded teeth
• Straightening crooked teeth
If you do have an issue which Invisalign is unable to treat, our cosmetic dentist in Tarzana can talk with you about viable treatments.
The Invisalign system consists of a series of clear and lightweight plastic alignment trays, also called aligners. The aligners fit snugly on top of your teeth and put gentle pressure on your teeth guiding them into the correct position.
During your initial visit to our office, our dentist will get impressions of your teeth. These are used to make the customized aligners. The Invisalign engineers use computer models to project the path and movement of your teeth as well as to create a series of 20 to 30 trays for you to wear during your treatment.
While removability is a popular feature of the Invisalign system, we want to remind you that you will get the best results quickly by wearing your alignment trays for at least 22 hours each day. However, you should remove them when you are eating or drinking anything except water.
Because of the consistent pressure from the alignment trays, you will need new trays about every two weeks. The new trays pick up where the previous trays stopped, and they continue moving your teeth to the planned position.
