Many people who require orthodontic work are not thrilled with the idea of having a mouth filled with metal. Luckily for them, Invisalign has created a system of clear plastic aligner trays that are also capable of straightening teeth. While the choice to wear Invisalign instead of braces may seem obvious, not everyone is able to wear Invisalign to treat their issues. By now you are probably wondering – am I a candidate for Invisalign?
Invisalign is ideally suited to correct issues such as crooked teeth, gapped teeth, and crowded teeth. As long as the case is not too severe, Invisalign can also be used to correct overbite, underbite, and malocclusion. Due to the clear nature of the plastic, most people do not even realize you are wearing Invisalign. This feature makes it great for people in business who might not want others to know they are wearing braces.
There are a few issues that cannot be solved by Invisalign. Patients who possess back tooth bite issues, who need to move their teeth vertically, who need to have their canines or premolars rotated, and who have bridgework may not qualify as candidates for Invisalign. Also, patients are required to wear the Invisalign aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours a day. Those patients without the discipline to wear Invisalign for that length of time might not be considered good candidates either.
